Hillsborough County Democrats on the US 200,000 COVID-19 Death Toll

“This was not inevitable. This was political malpractice”
Chair Ione Townsend says, “America needs healing.”

TAMPA, FL, September 22 – Coronavirus deaths in the US surpassed 200,000 today. The US
continues to lead the way with the greatest number of COVID-related deaths reported.
“I’m at a loss to adequately express the unbelievable sadness of this terrible landmark,” says
Executive Committee Chair Ione, Townsend. “This was not inevitable. This was political
malpractice. At every corner, our President and our Governor have chosen politics over people.
Even as we cross this terrible milestone, they continue to manipulate case numbers, silence
experts in the CDC and FDA and actively work to slow the testing down. The President overtly
lied to Americans, telling them the virus was harmless while at the same time confiding in Bob
Woodward that it was ‘deadly stuff’.”
As much of the world begins to view the virus from the rearview mirror, returning businesses
and schools to normal operations, American families and teachers are forced to make difficult
decisions about how to return to school with uncontrolled spread. Households struggle with job
losses, health issues and lack of access to health insurance. The end is not in sight.
“America needs healing,” Townsend says. “To do that, we need to elect Democrats. We need
an uprising. We urge everyone to go to votehillsborough.org and sign up for a Vote by Mail
ballot. Democrats will do the hard work that needs to be done to stop this virus, to keep our
citizens safe, to provide access to healthcare and to normalize our economy.”
The Hillsborough County Democratic Executive Committee co-ordinates strategy to elect
Democrats and promote progressive values in Hillsborough County.
